Outpost is priced as a monthly or annual subscription. Your plan price is based on your total subscriber count — free and paid members combined — organized into bands. Yearly billing saves roughly 17% over monthly.Unlike Substack, Outpost does not take a percentage of your subscription revenue. You pay a flat platform fee and keep 100% of what your members pay you (minus Stripe or PayPal processing fees).See Plans & Pricing for plan details and the Outpost pricing page for current rates.
There are three main plans plus two for larger publications:
  • Space Station — starter plan with the comprehensive autoresponder, no-commission Tip Jar, Plausible Analytics, Outpost Reports, and member management tools
  • Voyager — everything in Space Station, plus website conversion CTAs, native Tip Jar and gift-subscription pages, gift and group subscriptions, marketing campaign emails, enhanced analytics, theme hosting on GitHub, and podcast/RSS membership integrations
  • Luna — everything in Voyager, plus Contextly content recommendations, access to Labs features, and advanced integrations
  • Terraform and Enterprise — for larger publications and custom requirements (custom development, Ghost hosting, integration with existing subscription/login systems, dedicated tech support)
See the Outpost pricing page for the full feature breakdown by plan.
Yes. Space Station and Voyager both include a 21-day free trial when you sign up. A credit card is required up front, but you are not charged until you explicitly choose a plan and convert. Trials do not automatically roll into a paid subscription. Luna does not include a free trial — it’s an upgrade path from Space Station or Voyager and is provisioned by the Outpost team.If you need an extended trial or want a guided demo before signing up, contact the Outpost team.
Every Outpost plan starts from the Space Station feature set:
  • Comprehensive autoresponder with unique offers
  • No-commission Tip Jar (Stripe, Google Pay, Apple Pay, PayPal)
  • Plausible Analytics
  • Outpost Reports
  • Member management tools
Higher plans add features on top — website conversion CTAs, marketing campaigns, gift and group subscriptions, podcast/RSS integrations, Contextly recommendations, and more. See the Outpost pricing page for the per-plan breakdown.
Outpost does not charge transaction fees on your subscription revenue. Standard Stripe processing fees apply to your members’ payments (typically 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction in the US). PayPal has similar processing fees. Outpost does not mark up these fees — they’re charged directly by Stripe or PayPal.
Email delivery is built into Outpost — there’s no separate Mailgun account to set up or pay for. Outpost handles sending, tracking, bounce handling, and reply routing for every email your publication sends (welcome flows, autoresponder triggers, campaigns, receipts, system notifications). There is no per-email charge from Outpost. If you have unusually high sending volume, the Outpost team may reach out to discuss your usage. See the Mailgun integration page for how delivery works under the hood.
Yes. Stripe is the payment processor that collects money from your members on your behalf — Outpost connects to your existing Stripe account via OAuth and never holds your funds. Stripe is free to create and only charges you when your members are charged. See Connecting Stripe for setup. This is separate from how you pay Outpost — your Outpost subscription is billed directly by Outpost using a card on file.
  1. In your Outpost dashboard, go to Settings → Site Settings
  2. Scroll to the Outpost Subscription card
  3. Click See your invoices and view/change your payment method
This opens the Stripe Billing Portal where you can download every Outpost invoice as a PDF, see your billing history, and view the next charge date.
Use the same path as invoices:
  1. Settings → Site Settings → Outpost Subscription
  2. Click See your invoices and view/change your payment method
  3. In the Stripe Billing Portal, update your card or add a new payment method
Changes take effect on your next billing cycle.
Plan changes are processed by the Outpost team, not self-service, so your account stays correctly configured.
  1. In your dashboard, go to Account → Plan and click Request Upgrade
  2. The Outpost team reviews and applies the change
  3. If you upgrade to Voyager or Luna, run the Theme Connect Wizard (Labs → Theme Connect Wizard) to integrate Outpost features into your Ghost theme
See Upgrading Your Plan for the full walk-through.
Outpost plans are priced in subscriber bands. When your free + paid member count grows past your current band:
  1. Outpost emails you a heads-up that you’ll be moved to the next band
  2. Your plan moves up automatically — no action needed
  3. The price change is prorated when possible, so you only pay the difference for the rest of your billing period
You’ll always get advance notice before billing changes.
If your member count drops into a lower band, your plan moves down at your next billing cycle.
  • On a monthly plan: the lower band’s price kicks in on your next monthly charge.
  • On an annual plan: the difference between what you’ve already paid and the lower band’s price is added to your Stripe account as billing credit, which is automatically applied against future Outpost charges. Annual plans are not refunded in cash.
No. Annual plans are non-refundable once paid. If you downgrade bands or cancel mid-year, the unused portion is converted to billing credit on your Stripe account and applied automatically to future Outpost charges — it isn’t returned to your card.If you’re unsure whether monthly or annual is right for you, start monthly and switch to annual once you’re settled.
Yes. To cancel, go to Settings → Site Settings → Outpost Subscription and use the cancel option on that card. Your data and account remain accessible through the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for.If you’d like help exporting your data or migrating before you go, contact the Outpost team — we’d rather help you stay or leave cleanly than have you stuck.
