Outpost’s OmnyFM integration auto-publishes new podcast episodes from your OmnyFM (Omny Studio) shows as Ghost posts. You can also import your full existing episode library.

What this integration does

  • Auto-publishes new episodes as Ghost posts as they go live on OmnyFM
  • Imports your existing episode library as Ghost posts (one-time backfill)
  • Optionally embeds the Omny player
  • Configurable tags, authors, publish status, and post content for each program

Setup

  1. In Omny Studio, find your Organization ID in account settings.
  2. In Outpost, open the OmnyFM integration and enter your Organization ID.
  3. Click Load Available Programs and select which programs (shows) to sync.
  4. Configure per-program settings.

Episode-to-post mapping

Outpost checks OmnyFM for new episodes about every 15 minutes and publishes any it finds according to your per-program settings.

Checking on the import

Below the program panels are three controls:
  • Check for New Episodes: click Check for New to run the regular check right away instead of waiting for the next one.
  • Full Refresh: click Full Refresh, then Refresh All Episodes to confirm. Outpost goes through every episode of your programs on OmnyFM, imports any it hasn’t imported yet, recreates posts that were deleted, and rewrites the posts it already imported using your current settings (see the warning below). If a regular check finds an unusually large number of episodes to import at once, Outpost pauses the automatic checks and alerts the Outpost team to look into it. Full Refresh isn’t stopped by that limit, so use it when you mean to import a large batch. While Mode is Add Only New Episodes, older episodes are skipped, even by Full Refresh.
  • Sync Status: Last checked shows how long ago Outpost last checked OmnyFM, and Last successful how long ago a check last finished without an error. After three or more failed checks in a row, it also shows how many have failed. If one show can’t be checked, Outpost still checks your other shows, and the check counts as failed. A check also fails when no shows are selected.
Saving the OmnyFM settings, Check for New, and the automatic check only create posts for episodes that don’t have one yet. They never change a post Outpost has already imported, so edits you make in Ghost, such as tags, the excerpt, the feature image, a transcript you added, or the post’s status, are kept. They also don’t bring back a post you deleted in Ghost.
Full Refresh is the only action that changes posts Outpost has already imported. It rebuilds each post from OmnyFM using your current settings and replaces:
  • The status. Each post is set to the program’s Publish Mode, so a published episode goes back to draft when Publish Mode is Draft, and a post you moved back to draft is published again when it’s Publish.
  • The tags. Tags you added by hand in Ghost are removed.
  • The post body, including a transcript or notes you added by hand.
  • The title, publish date, authors, feature image, and social sharing image.
  • The meta description, when Add Omny FM Description to the is set to Metadata field or Metadata and Excerpt fields, and the excerpt, when it’s set to Metadata and Excerpt fields or Use Omny FM Summary is Yes.
  • The post’s code injection footer, and its template when Post Template is set.
Each post keeps its URL. A change you make to an episode on OmnyFM after it’s imported only shows up on its post after a Full Refresh.

Multi-program support

If you have multiple shows on Omny Studio, you can connect and configure each program independently: different import modes and different publish statuses per show.
OmnyFM is used by many radio stations and large-scale podcast networks. If you have a high volume of historical episodes, start with Add Only New Episodes so Outpost doesn’t create hundreds of posts the moment you connect. When you want the older episodes, switch that program’s Mode to Import Existing Episodes and save. Saving starts the import straight away and creates posts for the episodes that don’t have one yet, so set Publish Mode the way you want first.
